Baglung, Rukum shut over Dalit man's murder

BAGLUNG, Dec 16: Activists for the rights of the Dalit community have enforced a general shutdown in Baglung and Rukum banda on Friday, protesting the murder of Manbir Sunar, who comes of the Dalit community, a few days back.



Sunar, 31, a resident of Jubitha-4, Kalikot was thrashed to death for intruding into the kitchen fireplace of an "upper-caste" hotelier. [break]



Normal life has been crippled due to the strike as all educational institutions, industries, marketplaces and shops have remained closed due to the strike.



Also hundreds of passengers have been left in a lurch as transportation services have come to a grinding halt.



The strike enforcers have been rallying on the road since early this morning. The strike was announced on Thursday at a press conference.



The strike enforcers have been demanding strict action against the culprits.



Meanwhile, different organizations working for the rights of the Dalit community has shut down the Rukum headquarters demanding compensation to the deceased family and action against the guilty.



They have also demanded Sunar to be named a  martyr.
