GORKHA, April 9: An avalanche has hit Birendra Lake near Mt Manaslu Base Camp at Samagaun in northern part of the district.

Constable Bishnu Pokharel at Samagaun Police Post informed huge volume of water is gushing out of the lake following the avalanche at around 9 am on Thursday morning.

Pokharel added that flash flood in stream downstream has impacted tourists travelling along the Manaslu circuit. Trekkers heading to Larke Pass have failed to cross the stream due to flood, while tourists en route to Samde from Samagaun are stranded as the flood swept away the bridge.

The lake lies in remote part of the district and it takes seven days on foot to reach the place.
