BIRGUNJ, Dec 30: After the latest outbreak of coronavirus in India, authorities in the border city of Birgunj have adopted high vigilance to prevent the virus from entering Nepal. As the number of people infected with COVID-19 in India is increasing day by day, passengers entering Birgunj from across the border are allowed to enter only after a mandatory test.
Since the coronavirus infection is spreading in neighboring countries, health authorities have been highly cautious to prevent the virus from entering Nepal. Authorities have set up health desks at the major entry points for testing people entering Nepal.
Rajesh Man Singh, Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, has instructed the health workers to ensure that there should not be any shortage of necessary health equipment such as masks and sanitizers at the health desk.
Lakshmi Prasad Paudel, chief administrative officer of the metropolis, said that the health desk at the entry point has made necessary preparations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection.

Anisha Shah, a doctor at the health desk, said that besides the antigen test, screening of 200 people is being done every day. Dr Shah said that while the temperature screening of Nepali citizens returning home is done, foreigners are allowed to enter Nepal only after an antigen test.
Antigen tests and body temperature checks are now conducted at the health desk in the morning and evening.
Birgunj Metropolis starts campaign to manage unorganized wires
Birgunj Metropolitan City has started managing wires placed haphazardly in the Ghantaghar area of the city. As part of a campaign, the metropolis has removed the wires hanging from electricity and telecom poles.
A team including the representatives of Internet and Cable TV service providers in the metropolis has removed the unorganized wires on the poles from Ghantaghar Chowk to the District Police Office.
The metropolis started managing the haphazardly hanging wires with the consent of the service providers after they became an eyesore to the city dwellers and also posed risk of accidents.
Earlier, the team had cut and removed the wires hanging on poles in Adarsha Nagar area. The campaign to manage the wires gained momentum after Birgunj’s Mayor Rajesh Man Singh gave instructions to remove unorganized wires in the city area.
Brijesh Pradhan of the information technology branch of the metropolis said that the wires were cut and removed in the presence of the representative of the internet service providers. The metropolis has now issued a notice to install the wires only in accordance with the prescribed rules in the future.
