Authorities tighten vigilance at Birgunj border as COVID-19 cases rise in India

BIRGUNJ (PARSA), June 3: Authorities in Birgunj, a major border town, have tightened vigilance following a rise in COVID-19 cases in neighboring India. Health officials have started screening travelers entering Birgunj via road and railway from India.


The District Health Crisis Management Committee of Parsa, in its May 28 meeting, decided to strengthen health checks at the border points to address the potential risk of COVID-19 transmission.

On Monday, Mayor Rajeshman Singh of Birgunj Metropolitan City inspected the health desk at the Birgunj border. He stressed the need for heightened vigilance due to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in India.


"Considering the increasing COVID-19 transmission across the border, we have started taking special precautions to prevent its spread here," he said. "We are working to make the health desk at the border even more effective."


The metropolitan office has equipped the health desk with masks, sanitizers, thermometers, and other essential supplies. Health worker Ibrana Khatun said officials now conduct mandatory temperature checks for every person arriving from Raxaul. The health desk currently operates with a team of seven health workers.
