Some 50 ropanis of land was going to be acquired for the Budhiganga Hydropower Project. They were sad with the rumors but when they were told that they will be compensated for the land, they were glad. But the joy did not last long.

DOTI, August 5: Nine people, including seven from two families, died when a jeep (registration number S 1 J 491) headed for Chautara from Dipayal met with an accident at Kataigaun of Botgan Rural Municipality in Doti district Friday night. Despite the many mental, physical, and psychological ramifications of the tradition and repeated campaigns to do away with it, chhaupadi still seems to have a strong hold in our societies.
