BAJHANG, June 17: Nine persons were killed while five others sustained injuries when a passenger jeep met with an accident in Bajhang district on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place when the ill-fated jeep drove off the road and plunged down a mountainous slope at Masta rural municipality-1 in the district.

Information officer at District Administration Office Bajhang, Ram Bahadur Sarki, told Republica Online that nine persons were killed and five others were seriously injured in the incident. The death toll is expected to rise as the rescue operation is underway, he said. 

"Five seriously injured will be airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment," he said. 

The police have yet to ascertain the cause behind the accident.
