Army wins rugby sevens

KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Tribhuvan Army Club A on Wednesday claimed the men's title of Inter-club Women's and Men's Rugby Sevens Series on Wednesday at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Tribhuvan Army Club A on Wednesday claimed the men's title of Inter-club Women's and Men's Rugby Sevens Series on Wednesday at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu. 



Army overcame Gorkhali Rugby Club 5-0 in the competitive match which saw the departmental team score in the second half following scoreless first half. Gorkhali team studded with majority of the national players seemed helpless after the break in the 15-minute match. Ramit Kumal gave lead to Army with a try and scored five points which turned to be decisive.    



Nabin Giri of Gorkhali was declared the best player of the tournament. Nabin had scored 25 points from five try. Aakash Bhairab of Kavre secured third position in the same section.



Earlier on Tuesday, Gorkhali secured first position in women's section defeating Kathmandu Women's Rugby Club 20-17 in the final. Nepal Women's Rugby Club finished third.  Manisha Thapa Magar of Kathmandu was declared the best player under women's section.



The tournament featured seven teams in men's and four team in women's section. It also served as qualifiers for Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy to be held in Bangkok, Thailand in February next year. Altogether 20 players each in men's  and women's section will be picked for a national team camp and a 12-member team in each section will be announced before leaving for Thailand.
