KATHMANDU, April 17: Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) won its second match of the Red Bull National League registering a resounding 5-0 win over host Lumbini FC at the ANFA Technical Centre in Butwal to climb to third position in the standings on Thursday.
A brace each from Navayug Shrestha and Amrit Basnet and one from Tek Bahadur Budathoki saw Army, one of the favorites for the title, breaking its run of consecutive draws to reduce the gap to two points with leader Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC), who had to settle for a goalless draw against Morang FC.
After five rounds, MMC stand atop the table with 11 points, with a one point advantage over second-placed Jhapa XI.
Navayug put Army on the driving seat, breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute.
Army added other goals in a one-sided second half with Tek Bahadur doubling their advantage in the 64th minute, before Navayug scored his second five minutes later.
Amrit opened his scoring in the 82nd minute and completed his brace in the 92nd minute.
Meanwhile, Far-western held Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) to a goalless draw in Dhangadi.
The draw dropped APF one position down to fifth with seven points. Far-western remained at seventh place with five points, followed by Lumbini FC at eighth.
Morang stayed rooted at the bottom of the table with three points.
