Former chief commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Surya Nath Upadhaya, former chief election commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokharel, former finance secretary Rameshore Khanal, prominent comedians Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya, anti-corruption campaign initiator and journalist Rabindra Mishra, Mohan Mainali and Samirmani Dixit are among the members of NAAC. A meeting held at the capital Friday and attended by those who have been fighting against corruption for long decided to form NAAC.
According to journalist Mishra, NAAC will work as a pressure group and help make the authorities accountable.
The alliance will launch awareness programs targeted at corruption, hold interactions with stakeholders on a regular basis, carry out advocacy in favor of transparency and good governance, and exert pressure on decision makers to make anti-corruption agencies active and independent, among other things.
The youth organizationYouth Initiative will coordinate the NAAC secretariat.
Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to use a new slogan---May the Corrupt Be Jailed --- instead of the slogan of the May the Corrupt Rot campaign. Now onwards, NAAC will drive its campaign with the slogan May the Corrupt Be Jailed.
However, those wishing to use the slogan May the Corrupt Rot can do so as per their own interests. Those who have been criticizing this slogan were also present at the meeting.
