The revolutionary group demanded the resignation of TU Vice Chancellor (VC) Hira Bahadur Maharjan, Rector Guna Nidhi Neupane and Registrar Chandra Mani Poudel on Sunday after the VC did not arrive for the meeting despite his confirmation. [break]
VC Maharjan had called them for a dialogue to settle the FSU row on Sunday, but did not make it to the venue even though they waited for an hour, said ANNISU-R General Secretary Madan Aryal. “Maharjan is guided by the interest of CPN-UML which had nominated him for the post of the VC.”
He claimed that the university insulted their group by mobilizing dozens of security personnel from the TU entrance gate to the meeting hall. “We had gone for a dialogue, but the officials treated us as if we would attack them,” he claimed.
Following a vain attempt for dialogue, the group submitted a memorandum to Ganga Bahadur Thapa, chief of the TU Student Welfare and Sports Council, demanding the varsity to set fresh date for the poll.
However, Thapa said that the TU would again call them for dialogue to resolve the disputed issues that has left the poll in limbo. “The student unions are yet to come for a dialogue. We have been dealing with them despite the difficulties created by them,” he added.
Meanwhile, the ANNISU-R is planning to draw attention of the Chairman of the Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi, who is also the Chancellor of the TU on preparing favorable environment for the FSU poll, said Aryal.
