Nabina Lama, president of ANNFSU, told media persons that they moved the apex court as the private company has been cheating consumers and promoting black-market of petroleum products. "Birat Petroleum has been cheating consumers in broad daylight," Lama told Republica. "Agreements that NOC have signed with Birat Petroleum have to be cancelled and officials involved in the anomaly have to be brought to book."Meanwhile, Lama also said that ANNFSU has filed complaint against Birat Petroleum at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), arguing that the firm managed to sign the agreement by bribing government officials.
NOC has awarded temporary license to Birat Petroleum for supplying petroleum products. The company came into controversy after it sold petrol at much higher rate in the market. The company, which brought around 100 KL of petrol in January, sold petrol at Rs 190 per liter even though the rate fixed by NOC is Rs 104 per liter. Similarly, it sold 132 KL, brought in second lot in the third week of February, at Rs 130 per liter. It later lowered price to Rs 99 per liter following criticism from all quarters.
