KATHMANDU, May 7: Ang Dorjee Sherpa and Wangchen Dhondup clinched the first edition titles of the nett and gross category respectively in the Carlsberg Golf Series 2017 held at Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday. 

Ang Dorjee earned 38 points in the match played under stable ford 3/4 handicap format to become the nett category champion. Similarly, Wangchen scored 37 points to win the gross section title of the tournament. 

The second and third editions of the series are scheduled for August and October respectively. Players in top 10 in nett and top five in gross categories earns the points and the players with the highest points after the final edition will be announced as the champions of Carlsberg Golf Series 2017. 

Providing the platform for the rising golfers is the main reason behind organizing the series according to Gorkha Brewery’s Managing Director Arun Tiwari. “Our aim is to provide platform for emerging golfers of the country and we are proud to do so. I think we have been successful in our objective,” said Tiwari. He also thanked series’ partner Gokarna Golf Resort for helping to hold the competition successfully. 

Similarly, Gorkha Brewery’s Marketing Director Baibhav Sharma said that the series has given solid start to the season. “The relation of the golf and Carlsberg in the country has very old relation and we have given the best possible start to the golf season this time,” said Sharma. 

Meanwhile, Gokarna Golf Resort’s Golf Director Dipak Acharya thanked Gorkha Brewery for continuous support for golf and helping emerging golfers for their development organizing such events.
