ANFA and Gurkha Group signed a three-year sponsorship deal for the knockout tournament on Friday in Kathmandu. ANFA President Thapa and Gurkha Group´s representative Prem Bahadur Bega signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

Bega said the tournament is a continuation of the British Gurkha Cup. "After three successful editions of the British Gurkha Cup, we thought Gurkha Cup would give a broader meaning to the tournament," said Bega.

As per the new contract, Gurkha Group will provide Rs 2 million to ANFA as the tournament sponsor for the 2070 BS edition. According to ANFA President Thapa, the sponsorship amount will increase by 15 percent every year.

The tournament will feature all the A division clubs. The winner of the tournament will bag Rs 1 million while the runner-up will get Rs 500,000. It is the knockout tournament with the second highest cash prize after the Ncell Cup, which has a cash prize of Rs 1.5 million for the winner.

The best player of Gurkha Cup will get a motorbike while the best players in their respective positions -- forward, midfield, defense and goalkeeping -- will get Rs 50,000 each. The best coach of the tournament will also receive Rs 50,000.

ANFA President Thapa said that the association is planning to add another knockout football tournament in its calendar. "We will organize a third knockout tournament in the capital along with Gurkha Cup and Ncell Cup," said Thapa. "We are planning to include the knockout tournament in the calendar," said Thapa.
