KATHMANDU, Nov 20: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expressed sorrow over the tension and violent incidents that erupted in Simara of Bara on Wednesday, warning that anarchy is unacceptable in a democracy.
Posting her remarks on social media on Wednesday, PM Karki made it clear that no one is allowed to vandalize public property or take the law into their own hands in the name of freedom of expression.
“I want to make it clear that such anarchy is absolutely unacceptable in a democracy,” the PM said. “We are committed to respecting freedom of expression. But that does not mean anyone has the right to damage public property, obstruct airports, or take the law into their own hands.”
Terrorism and anarchy are inimical to democracy, press freedom:...
Following the Simara incident, PM Karki immediately instructed the home administration and security agencies to maintain peace and order.
She directed the security agencies to ensure the safe movement of leaders from all political parties and to work with maximum restraint.
“I have instructed the home administration and security agencies to maintain peace and order, ensure the safe movement of political party leaders, and create a free and fair environment for the election,” she said.
The PM also stated that the government has taken the anger of the youth and the prevailing political dissatisfaction seriously.
Saying that genuine expectations of youth can be fulfilled only through the democratic process, she appealed to all sides to stay away from unnecessary political provocation.
