Bhattarai said this during his meeting with outgoing British ambassador to Nepal Dr Andrew Hall at his private residence at New Baneshwar. [break]
According to Bhattarai´s aide Bishwadeep Pandey, Bhattarai said that the protracted political deadlock would end if the political parties reached an agreement in principle to form a national consensus government by August 2.
“If we fail to reach a consensus by August 2, we can end the current voting process and adopt a new one for the sake of a consensus government,” Pandey quoted Bhattarai as saying.
“All options are open for a consensus government,” Bhattarai said. The Maoist vice-chairman also said that a majority-based government, no matter who leads it, would not be able to conclude the peace process and constitution drafting. Dr Hall is returning to the UK after completing his tenure in Nepal.
