LUKLA, Oct 12: A Dornier-228 aircraft of Sita Air (SA), heading for Lukla from Kathmandu met with an accident while landing at the Lukla airport at 8:40 am on Tuesday.

The plane collided with the wall of the airport after its brakes failed, Sita Air said. The front part of the plane has been completely damaged in the incident. However, all the crew members and passengers on board are safe.

Sita Air prohibited journalists present at the time of accident from taking any photographs. "Big catastrophe was avoided", Sudam Kumar Sijapati, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Solukhumbu said.

On October 8, 2008, during Dashain, a Yeti Airlines Twin Otter had crashed at the airport, killing all the 18 people on board. Likewise, an Agni Air aircraft heading to Lukla crashed at Shikharpur of Makawanpur district killing all the people on board this year.
