“All the preparation for the operation of flights is in the final stage,” said an official of Incentive Tours and Travels (ITT), General Sales Agent (GSA) of Air Asia in Nepal, preferring not to be named. [break]
According to him, Air Asia has already got the permission to operate up to four flights a week from civil aviation authority of Malaysia. It is yet to complete formalities in Nepal though.
Air Asia had applied for permission to operate flights to Nepal at Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA), about eight months ago. “We have sought necessary documents for the completion of formalities from Air Asia,” an official at MoTCA said. However, the ministry has not received any documents from the airlines so far.
The ITT official informed Republica that the airline was preparing to operate flights from the first week of June.
The target passengers of the airlines are migrant workers, tourists as well as Nepali students studying aboard.
At present, Nepal Airlines Company (NAC) is operating direct flights to Malaysia from Kathmandu. The cost Air Asia tickets is comparatively lower than other airlines.
