In a press conference organized in the capital Friday to inform about the AHF Meeting, NHA President Gurung informed that the International Handball Federation (IHF) has approved Nepal´s bid to host IHF Challenge Trophy. The tournament is scheduled for December.
"IHF approved Nepal´s bid but there are some conditions to be fulfilled. IHF and AHF will inspect our infrastructure and preparations two months prior to the tournament and their approval will be required," said Gurung. "So we need support from Nepal government, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and National Sports Council (NSC). As per the IHF provision, we will get hosting rights only after these government institutions give a written commitment of support," he added.
Nine countries from South and Central Asia will participate in the tournament, where boys will compete in U-21 age group and girls will compete in U-20 age group. The top two teams of the tournament will qualify for the continental-level competition.
On the same occasion, NSC Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama vowed to provide every support to NHA to organize the international tournament in Kathmandu.
