Agreement to rollback hiked school fees

KATHMANDU, April 20: The government and 13 different student unions have reached an agreement to make private schools rollback hiked tuition fees.

Spokesperson of Nepal Students Union (NSU) UP Lamichhane informed a 10-point deal was signed between agitating unions and Ministry of Education late Sunday night.


A technical committee will be formed under Fee Fixation and Monitoring Central Committee comprising representing from student unions and community schools to determine the criteria of fees to be charged by private schools.

According to the agreement, students will be admitted on same fees that of earlier academic session, the increased amount will be refunded to those who have already enrolled and fees will be adjusted only for this academic session based on suggestion of the committee.

With the agreement, student unions have called off scheduled program of education strike, said Lamichhane.

Private schools had jacked up monthly school fees by 25 percent from this academic session.
