KATHMANDU, Dec 7: Agitating lawyers affiliated with the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) have reached the residence of major opposition party, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana. Lawyers under the leadership of NBA Chairman Chandeshwor Shrestha reached Oli’s residence in Balkot at 12:45PM today.
The two sides held talks regarding the resignation of Chief Justice Rana, Shrestha informed Republica. Lawyers and Justices have been protesting, demanding CJ Rana’s resignation since October 24 and have boycotted all court hearings except for the cases related to habeas corpus.
Chief Justice Rana urges agitating lawyers to come for dialogue
Stating that CJ Rana tried to seek his share in the government through a ‘give and take’, took part in the constitutional appointments, and is incapable to run the judiciary, Shrestha said that the departure of CJ Rana from his post is a matter of grave concern.
