After death of an elderly due to COVID-19, 14 of his family members test positive for virus in Morang

MORANG, Aug 5: A few days after the death of an elderly in Rangeli Municipality of Morang district due to COVID-19, 14 members of his family tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday.

Chief Executive Officer of Rangeli Municipality Tom Prasad Subedi said that the family members of the deceased have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

The municipal authorities have started collecting swab specimens of the neighbors of the deceased and those who reached the home of the deceased in recent days, according to Subedi. The daughter of the deceased had come to Rangeli from New Delhi and other members of the same family had also reached there from Kathmandu. She had stayed at a quarantine facility in a Biratnagar-based hotel before reaching her home one month ago.

Rangeli, which is also the erstwhile headquarters of Morang district, has been sealed off for three days starting Tuesday to stop the spread of coronavirus. Ward numbers 4, 5, 6 and 7 have been completely sealed off keeping in mind the rising coronavirus cases. The prime market area has been locked for the next three days.

All services in local Rangeli Hospital except emergencies have been halted until further notice to stop the coronavirus transmission. Earlier five staffers at the hospital were diagnosed with the COVID-19.
