KATHMANDU, April 30: Flights to and from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have been affected due to adverse weather conditions.


The airport office said that domestic and international flights from the airport were generally affected due to low visibility. According to the general manager of the airport, Pratap Babu Tiwari, due to poor visibility and bad weather, flights to various international and domestic destinations have not been able to take place on time, while some international flights are on hold in the sky.

A Sri Lankan Airlines plane that came from Colombo to Kathmandu has been on hold in the sky for half an hour. Similarly, the flight of Batik Air from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is also currently held in the sky above Simara. The airport has mentioned that some domestic flights have been delayed.


According to the weather forecast division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, there is currently rain and wind in the country due to the influence of western winds and local winds. Flights were affected from Saturday afternoon to late night due to rain.


At present, there is partial to normal rainfall in some parts of the hilly areas and one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, the department said. There is partial change in the sky of Kathmandu since this morning. Now it is raining with thunder in some areas of the valley.
