ADPC launches programmes in Nepal

KATHMANDU, May 8: The Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) has launched its programs in Nepal aimed at improving humanitarian coordination through systematic and local institutional strengthening. 

ADPC deploys disaster risk management information system to reduce local, national and regional risk across the Asia-Pacific region. 

According to Pooja Kulkarni, an official of the ADPC, the project focuses on disaster risk management capacity building, improving disaster risk management for cities and climate change, mainstreaming DRM into national and local development, improving disaster risk management systems and undertaking disaster risk reduction. 

ADPC works closely with local national and regional governments, governmental and nongovernmental organizations, donors and development partners. 

The programme is implemented in Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines and Sri Lanka. It will be effective until July 2019 and is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. 

Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Krishna Bahadur Raut shared that out of 17 sustainable developmental goals, 10 are related to disaster management and the focus should be given to achieve these goals through the effective implementation of the project. 

The consultant of the project Man Bahadur Thapa shared that the project will focus to strengthening the capacity of governmental and nongovernmental organizations of 30 districts, highly risky from the natural disasters perspectives and to reach humanitarian support there. RSS
