KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Acting Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki has said time has come to manage a separate curriculum to appoint judges.

Addressing a programme organized on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the Judicial Council in the capital on Sunday, Acting CJ Karki underscored the need of a separate curriculum to appoint judges even by amending laws. "It is imperative to pass any course by the judges irrespective of the level."

Acting Chief Justice Karki reminded that the Judicial Council was taking action and making recommendations for the action on the judges based on concrete evidence. He admitted that it was difficult to clear the backlog of cases due to inadequacy of judges at Supreme Court and High Courts. "There are piles of cases at SC. Currently, we are settling the cases pending for five years. We're hearing the cases at court and writing the verdict at home," he informed.

On the occasion, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, stressed that the government would ensure justice to the people at any cost. He however said, "Complaint is made on delayed justice. So, the concerned side must be aware of it."

Also speaking on the occasion, Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati also stressed the importance of curriculum for selecting judges based on meritocracy. Chairperson of Nepal Bar Association, Gopal Krishna Ghimire, viewed all sides concerned must work in unison for the reform in judiciary.
