Absconding murder convict arrested after 24 years

DSP Tilak Bharati of the District Police Office, Nuwakot, told Republica that Chheppa Tamang, of Kavre village in Tarakeshwor Rural Municipality-5, was arrested 24 years after being convicted of a murder.

KATHMANDU, Jan 9: An absconding murder convict has been arrested by the police from Nuwakot after 24 years. 


DSP Tilak Bharati of the District Police Office, Nuwakot, told Republica that Chheppa Tamang, of Kavre village in Tarakeshwor Rural Municipality-5, was arrested 24 years after being convicted of a murder.

According to DSP Bharati, Tamang had murdered 53-year-old Laxman Tamang of Bidur Municipality-13. The Patan High Court had sentenced him to 20 years in prison in 2057 BS. He was absconding after the verdict. After hiding in various places in India and Nepal for a long time, he recently returned to Nuwakot.


DSP Bharati informed Republica that he was arrested from Ligleni in Tarakeshwor and sent to prison on the order of the court.
