KATHMANDU, Nov 10: Police have arrested an absconding murder convict 16 years after the incident took place.
A team of police from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Minbhawan, arrested Ram Kumar Giri, 33, a resident of Mechinagar Municipality-7 in Jhapa district, for murdering 18-year-old Jeevan Lohani 16 years ago.
On-the-run convict arrested after 28 years
According to police, Giri murdered Lohani, who was then living in a rented room at Ranibari, in Samakhusi, Kathmandu, on February 1, 2005.
The Kathmandu District Court convicted Giri, and slapped a jail term. However, Giri then absconded to foreign countries. After returning to Nepal, he changed his name and started hiding in several places in the country.
