Jatra has Nepali translation of Kumar's collection of poems in English about major Nepali landmarks and heritage sites, originally published in an anthology named The Eight-Eyed Lord of Kathmandu. Published by We Read, an imprint of Kathalaya, and translated to Nepali by author Kishor Nepal, this collection has illustrations by Italian artist Tarshito.
The book launch event was supplemented by the opening of an exhibition of poetry paintings by Kumar and Torshito. Torshito works on spirituality, creativity and tradition between the East and the West and has exhibited his works worldwide.
Prof Dr Abhi Subedi, Chancellor of the Nepali Music and Drama Academy Saru Bhakta, author Kishore Nepal and journalist Bijay Kumar were also present at the event.
While Subedi and Saru Bhakta admired the poet's love for Nepal, understanding of Nepal and his efforts in bridging the two nations, translator Nepal highlighted the challenges of translating "diplomatic" poems.
Kumar read a few of his poems during the function.
Kumar, well known in literary circle as Abhay K, is the author of two memoirs and five poetry collections. Recently appointed as the Director of The Nehru Center, London, Kumar is also the lyricist of the Earth Anthem and SAARC song.
The poems in Jatra talk about various Nepali historical places and festivals, and were written during his three-year stay in Nepal.
Kathalaya also launched the book in their PlayStore app We Read.
