KATHMANDU, Sept 28: Morang district has emerged as the second biggest COVID-19 hotspot after Kathmandu in terms of the number of COVID-19 cases reported on Sunday.

While Kathmandu reported a total of 633 new cases of COVID-19, Morang district recorded a total of 152 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday. Two other districts in Kathmandu Valley-- Lalitpur and Bhaktapur-- have also reported a significant rise in the number of COVID-19 cases.

A total of 102 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Lalitpur and 72 others in Bhaktapur district on Sunday, according to the Ministry of Health and Population. Local authorities have put in place the 'odd and even rule' for vehicles within Kathmandu Valley keeping in view of the worsening situation of COVID-19.

The number of new COVID-19 cases reported in other districts is fewer in recent days. While local governments in various districts that reported a huge number of COVID-19 cases have decided to resume school classes, a number of other districts are able to effectively contain the spread of COVID-19.

A total of five districts including Manang, Mustang, Dolpa, Mugu, and Humla are currently free of COVID-19 infection. These districts have not reported even a single case of COVID-19 these days.
