DHARAN, Sept 20: A police head constable at the Area Police Office Hanumannagar, Saptari, has been severely thrashed by his colleague. Tilak Karki, 31, who was severely beaten by head constable Kamal Tolang on September 16, is currently undergoing treatment at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan.

Karki´s left hand is broken and has sustained critical injuries on his head while his back and legs have been left with deep bruises. “He (Tolang) woke me up at 11 pm for duty. I said that I would attend my duty at 12 as I had come after a 14-hour duty. He then got my hands cuffed and bashed me up with a cane,” Karki said.

Karki claimed that two sub inspectors and two other head constables, who were also present when the incident took place, didn´t come to his rescue. “I fell unconscious unable to withstand the brutal onslaught. When I gained consciousness, I was being rushed to the hospital. Later, I was detained for 18 hours.”

Karki claimed that he was taken to the hospital only after he filed a complaint at the District Police Office. Sub inspector at Hanumannagar police office Lekhendra Basnet conceded that Karki was beaten. He said investigation into the incident was on.
