Nat'l Day against Human Trafficking marked

KATHMANDU, Sept 5: The 3rd National Day against Human Trafficking was marked by organizing various programs in the capital on Saturday.



The main celebration committee took out a rally that made a round of various parts of the town and converged into an assembly later. Officials of different government and non-government offices, women rights activists, students including others joined the rally carrying placards reading different slogans against human trafficking and smuggling.



Speaking at the assembly, Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Sarba Dev Prasad Ojha stressed on the unity among all to fight against human trafficking and smuggling.



Chairperson of National Women´s Commission Nayan Kala Thapa said women and children had been affected mostly by human trafficking and smuggling. "A collective commitment is necessary to combat this trend", she said.



Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare Ratna Kaji Bajracharya, Durga Ghimire of ABC Nepal, Anuradha Koirala of Maiti Nepal and human rights activist Hari Priya Pandey also spoke at the event. On the occasion, Shakti Samuha also presented a street drama targeting human trafficking and smuggling.
