Dr Manju Mishra, Festival Director, said that the festival is organized to know Africa from their eyes. Speaking at the press meet, she said, “Basically, we know Africa as the place of hunger and poverty because that’s how a majority of international news agencies portray.
However, there are many things that make Africa one of the beautiful continents of the world. Apart from poverty, hunger and AIDS, there are a number of things that make Africa culturally rich.” “Despite the negative things portrayed, Africa has gone through massive changes and we can learn from them,” she added.
According to her, Nepal is the only country in South Asia to organize the African Film Festival. As asked the motive behind the film festival, she replied that film festival is a source of exchanging cultures between Nepal and African nations. She added, “This festival is a way to bridge the gap between Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Everest.”
