The villagers came to know about the fire much later as they were attending a ritual feast hosted by the relatives of Laxmi Sardar, who had died recently. “When we returned the entire village was in flames,” said Pramod Sada, a local.

According to locals, the fire spread across the village in no time. Fire victim Sebaki Sada said she lost everything she owned to the fire.

Meanwhile, District Police Office Saptari, Redcross, Mahuli Market Management Committee, and local businessmen provided immediate relief to the fire victims. However, the victims are still living under the open sky.

The fire that had started at around Monday midnight was brought under control after three hours through the joint efforts of Nepal Police, Nepal Army, locals and the fire brigade from Lahan Municipality. The village is 40 kilometer north of Rajbiraj.
