NC, Madhesi Front hold serious but positive talks

KATHMANDU, March 13: The ruling Nepali Congress and the opposition United Democratic Madhesi Front held talks on Friday on sorting out the disputes in the constitution writing through talks, dialogue and the consensus.

The leaders following the meeting said they had very serious but positive dialogue on federalism and state restructuring, which could lead to the consensual way. NC Spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu said the meeting zeroed in on the much prickly issues of federalism. However, the meeting ended in positive note.


The NC was for seeking consensus among the political parties through talks. So, the talks would be continued, he added.

The political parties in the recent days have intensified discussions and dialogue on how they could come on common ground on the much disputed issued of the federalism. In this connection, the UML and UCPN (Maoist) held discussion Friday morning, which was followed by NC's talks with the Madhesi parties.

Following the meeting, Chairman of the Sadbhavana Party, Rajendra Mahato, said they mulled specially on state restructuring. Both sides put forth their views and agreed to intensify talks to settle the disputes soon.

According to him, the UDMF put forth views based on the report of the state restructuring commission and the position of the 30-party alliance. The alliance is of the position that there could be two provinces in Tarai- one from Jhapa to Narayani and another from Narayani to Kanchanpur. (Audio Clips Available) RSS
