KATHMANDU, Aug 6: An ex-government official apparently committed suicide at his home in the capital early Thursday morning by shooting himself on his face, police said.
Gopal Dahal Chhetri, 60, who retired as under secretary at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction died on the way to Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital at Maharajgunj. He had "shot himself" at his home in Gaurighat in Pashupatinath Temple area at 4.45 a.m.
Police said he sat on his bed, placed the gun on his chin and pulled the trigger with his leg. The ceiling and walls of his room are splattered with blood and flesh.
Chhetri had retired one and half months ago. He is survived by his wife and son.
Police said they knew Chhetri and have escorted him to his house many times in the past after "finding him drunk".
