KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): The Nepal Mental Health Foundation has conferred Mental Health Journalism Award on Biratnagar based-Journalist Bhim Ghimire. Ghimire has been awarded for his June 9 report on Kantipur daily about a mentally retarded 12-year-old boy, who had been shackled by his parents for seven years. The patient had received free medical treatment at BP Koirala Health Science Foundation, Dharan. [break]
The mental health award is the first of its kind in South Asia, read a statement issued by Jagannath Lamichhane, Chairperson of the Mental Health Foundation. Republica journalist Om Astha Rai and Laxmi Maharjan of The Himalayan Times had earlier received the award worth Rs 25,000 along with letter of appreciation.
