Following the construction of the bridge the locals have been relieved of the burden of crossing the river by ferries. The bridge was constructed under the financial assistance of the Department for International Development (DFID Nepal). The bridge was constructed at the cost of Rs 600 million. [break]
The bridge is 120m long, 2m wide and 20.3 high. “The bridge can hold up to 552 tons of weight,” said a local engineer, Mahendra Shrestha. A similar bridge was constructed at Sabhakhola of Sankhuwasabha district a few months ago.
Kalika Construction and China´s CTC Construction Company had started the construction of the bridge from December of 2011. The bridge was completed on September 23.
“The bridge has also connected around 280 agricultural roads in Sankhuwasabha, Khotang and Bhojpur districts,” said Shrestha.
Chairperson of Bhojpur chapter of Nepal Chamber of Commerce Damber Shrestha said, “The construction of the bridge is a boon to Bhojpur locals. This will definitely bring prosperity to the district.”
