Nepali karatekas clean sweep golds in Thimphu

KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Nepali karatekas completed a clean sweep of gold medals at the South Asian Karate Championship held in Thimphu, Bhutan on Monday adding 13 gold medals to the 10 they won a day earlier.



Sang Tshering Lama claimed two gold medals in the championship. She won the kumite event of women´s 45 kg weight category and the individual kata event in cadet section.

Parshuram Bastola and Chanchala Danuwar clinched golds in individual kata events in the senior section. Nepali men´s and women´s kata teams also won gold medals.[break]



 The men´s team comprised Ganesh Bahadur Thing, Kedar Simkhada and Monday Kaji Shrestha, while the women´s team consisted of Subhadra Shrestha, Sangita Dangol and Suman Lama.



In men´s kumite, Bishnu Shrestha (55 kg), Milan Nepali (60 kg), Lekhnath Mainali (75 kg) and Digambar Prasad Pant (above 84 kg) won golds for Nepal. Nirmala Rai won the women´s 75 kg kumite event. Nepali men´s kumite team also claimed gold medal.



Players from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka participated in the tournament. According to Nepal Karate Federation President Dawa Gurung, the federation will receive the team upon its arrival in Kakadbhitta, Jhapa from Bhutan.
