7 of a family 'killed' in landslide

HETAUDA, August 13: Two member of a family have died and five members of the family are feared dead after a landslide buried their home in Bakaiya Rural Municipality-10 of Makwanpur district on Sunday.

Landslides had buried the house of Malgalashi Nuesur, 50, a local of Ambasbensi of the rural municipality on Sunday. Bodies of the two of the missing were recovered Sunday evening and the five missing are feared dead, according to locals.

Those missing have been identified as Malgalshi's wife Sunmaya, 48; daughter Maya, 24; and 12-year-old Heera and two years old Bikash. According to a local, Buddha Lama, 10-year-old Sanumaya and 8-year-old Palmo have been confirmed dead as their bodies have been recovered from the debris.

According to him, the landslides occurred at around 2 am on Sunday. Area Police Office, Thingan, has sent a rescue team to the incident site, informed District Police Office (DPO), Makawanpur. 

The landslide has also washed away four buffaloes, one ox and all the belongings of the family. The whole village is in mourning following the unfortunate incident. 

Bir Bahadur Ghalan, a local of Bakaiya Rural Municipality, remains missing after he was washed away by the flood in Bungekhola, according to the DPO. Police said nine people have been rescued after the flood entered Shanti Nagar, Hetauda-4.

Three members of a family killed in landslide

Meanwhile, three members of the same family were killed in Surkhet after a massive landslide swept away the house of Guman Singh Budha of Sindure in Gurbhakot rural municipality-6 of Surkhet district on Sunday.  

Nishan Thapa, DSP of District Police Office, Surkhet informed that 83-year-old house owner Guman Singh along with his grandsons Bikram Budha, 14, and Charan Budha, 12, were killed in the landslide. Landslide, struck the house at around 4 am Sunday. Draupadi Budha, daughter-in-law of Guman Singh has sustained serious injuries. She has been taken to Mehalkuna Hospital for treatment.
