HLPC, 33-party alliance meeting ends inconclusively

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: A meeting between the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) and the agitating CPN-Maoist-led 33-party alliance ended inconclusively on Monday.



The meeting held at HLPC Secretarait in Nayabaneswor could not make concrete decisions as both the sides stuck in their previous stance.



During the meeting, the CPN Maoist-led 33-party alliance reiterated its previous stance that they would join the poll process if the Chairman of the Election Council Khil Raj Regmi had resigned from the Chief Justice. [break]



Leaders representing to the HLPC urged the agitating parties to join the Constituent Assembly election scheduled for Nov 19.



Emerging from the meeting, CPN-Maoist leader Dev Gurung said, “We proposed Khil Raj Regmi must resign from the CJ post, and then only we can join the poll process. But the HLPC leaders informed us that Regmi was not ready to step down.”



Similarly, CPN-UML leader, Raghuji Pant told reporters that both the sides were agreed to continue their parleys even today’s meeting was not fruitful.



“The agitating parties did not change their bottom line the IEC chair would resign from the CJ post for joining the poll process,” leader Pant said, “We urged them to join the CA election on November 19.”
