KATHMANDU, July 7: The one-on-one meeting between the two chairmen of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ended inconclusively on Tuesday.

The meeting which lasted for three hours at PM Oli’s official residence in Baluwatar failed to yield concrete outcomes, according to NCP leaders.

It is learnt that the two top leaders of the NCP agreed to resume the party’s crucial Standing Committee meeting which has been halted due to the growing intra-party rift within the party. The meeting will take place  on Wednesday afternoon in Baluwatar.

The chairmen duo has been holding talks apparently to hammer out their differences over a host of issues including the demand for Oli’s resignation both as the party chairperson and the prime minister. However, Oli is adamant on not resigning from any of the two positions while the Dahal-led rival faction is insisting him to do so.

Oli is under intense pressure to step down from the posts as a majority of the party’s Standing Committee members have asked him to do so owing to the government’s lackluster response to the COVID-19 pandemic and Oli’s unilateral actions, bypassing the party’s official and unofficial decisions.

The two chairmen will again sit for talks tomorrow, ahead of the party’s Standing Committee meeting.
