MMC will be playing for its first title in Bhutan and second of the season after winning the Gurkha Cup at home in June 15. Yeedzin, the Bhutanese league champion, will be under pressure to keep the most prestigious trophy of Bhutan at home. MMC, which had lost to BEC Tero of Thailand in the final of the tournament´s 2004 edition, will also be eying the title. This is the first time that the tournament has been held since 2004.[break]
In the semifinal, MMC edged past United Sikkim of India 6-2 in an extra-time drama following a 2-2 draw in the normal time. Tanzanian striker Yona Elias Ndabila scored a hat-trick for MMC while Sulav Maskey added another goal in extra time. Yeedzin defeated Nepal´s champion Three Star Club 1-0 in the other semifinal.
MMC and Yeedzin had reached the semifinals from the same group as group winner and runner-up respectively. MMC has won all its matches in the tournament and also defeated Yeedzin 3-1 in the group stage. It was Yeedzin´s only defeat in the tournament.
Yeedzin will have the advantage of home crowd and home ground, while MMC has been given a huge boost as Shiva Shrestha and Sulav Maskey have joined the team after their release from the national team camp a week ago. The duo featured in the semifinal match against United Sikkim and Maskey also scored a goal after coming in as a late substitute in the match.
