Shah, who was marking her debut at the international stage also set second national record in the event. Shah broke 13-year-old national record in women"s 50 m freestyle clocking 30.16 seconds on Saturday. However, she failed to qualify from the heats round. Earlier Runa Pradhan held the record in her name set during Sydney Olympics with the timing of 31.28 seconds.[break]
Shah"s overall position however was 70th among 83 participants of the event. Cate Campbell of Australia secured best timing in the heats clocking 24.27 seconds.
Earlier Shah had set a new record in women"s 200 m freestyle Tuesday. Shah clocked 2 minutes 31.79 seconds in the event to beat the previous record of 2 minutes 37.75 seconds held by Karishma Karki.
On Friday, Shreya Dhital had bettered her own record of women"s 50 m butterfly clocking 34.01 seconds. She held the national record of 34.69 seconds set during 18th National Open Swimming Championship about a month ago.
Saipal claims GIHA title
KATHMANDU: Saipal Academy on Saturday claimed the title of GIHA Inter-college Football Tournament with a comfortable 4-0 win over Ace Higher Second School in the final.
Despite goalless first half, Saipal scored all four goals in the second half with three goals coming in the span of six minutes. In the event played on the premises of host GEMS, Subash Rai broke the deadlock two minute after the interval. Rupesh Adhikari doubled the advantage two minutes later. Sabin Sapkota made it 3-0 in the 51st minute. Rajan Thapa sealed the big win for Saipal during fading moments with fourth goal.
Rabi Thapa of Saipal was declared the best goalkeeper and his teammate Sabin Sapkota took home the best striker award. Bikranta Rana of runner up Ace Academy was declared the best player.
GEMS founder Director Rajesn Khadka, Director Barun Khadka and CEO Rajendra Ghising distributed the trophies and certificates to the winners.
Juddodaya, Nimble achieve big wins
KATHMANDU : Juddodaya High School and Nimble Boarding School achieved big wins on Saturday under boy"s section in the qualifiers of Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school Football Tournament being held at Sano Gaucharan, Kathmandu. Juddodaya thumped Surachana 6-0 with four goals for Dipesh Shrestha and twins from Rajesh Adhikari. Nimble School saw off Himalayan Ideal School 6-1 with Kiran Gurung and Pradip Gurung achieving the target twice for the winning side. Similarly, HIMS saw off Bhimsengola High School 4-1. Nawang Sherpa was on scresheet twice for the winning team. Pragati Shikshya Sadan defeated Rising Star Higher Secondary School 2-0 and Bal Srijanalaya beat Ambrosia Ideal 1-0.
