“Reduction in the number of seats under the PR system by 95 is an attempt to marginalize the women, oppressed groups, indigenous groups and Madhesis,” said Bhandari. He demanded that 60 percent seats be allocated under PR system and 40 percent under first-past-the-post in the new election.
Speaking at a function organized on the occasion of the first anniversary of the party in the capital Thursday, Bhandari said, “Delineation of electoral constituencies should be based on population.” He also claimed that the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) is meaningless because it is controlled by the big three parties.
“CA should be held after forging consensus among all the parties,” said Bhandari. He also demanded that arrangement be made to allow Neaplis living and working abroad to vote in the new CA elections.
While stating that his party would not boycott the elections, he said ignoring the agitating parties would cost the government dear. He also alleged that the current government has not been heeding the concerns of the agitating parties.
Asked about electoral alliances in the upcoming election, he said his party would work to bring more parties into the existing Federal Democratic Forum (FDF). Bhandari´s party is a constituent of the FDF.
The party´s spokesperson Mohhamad Izaharul Haque Mikrani said the government should hold local body election right after the CA poll.
