“We will organize separate function at public level to mark the Republic Day,” said President of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) Hari Krishna Karki, while addressing a press conference organized by PAPAD on Monday in the capital. [break]
PAPAD has stated that the achievements of 2006 people"s movement have been left in the shadows. “Fundamental rights and citizens" rights are in trouble because of unconstitutional and undemocratic agreement among handful of leaders for appointing the chief justice as the executive head of the country,” reads the statement issued by PAPAD.
Terming the move unconstitutional and undemocratic, PAPAD has demanded that the endorsement of the ordinance on removing constitutional difficulties be scrapped.
It has also demanded the resignation of Chairman of the Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi from the post of chief justice stating that holding both the posts at the same time is against the principle of judiciary.
Likewise, PAPAD has demanded that the appointment of former chief secretary Lokman Singh Karki as the chief commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) be scrapped.
PAPAD has stated that holding polls for new Constituent Assembly (CA) would be meaningless until demands raised by disgruntled parties are not addressed.
