KATHMANDU, July 10: Nepal Police has brought in a new ruling to end all types of road obstructions, a senior police official told myrepublica.

Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Silwal, chief of Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, said that all those attempting to block roads would be taken as public offence and arrested. He also added that police would clear any obstruction within 15 minutes.

The ruling will be in effect from Friday.

"In fact, this morning, a group was arrested in Kapan trying to obstruct the road demanding black-topping of the road," Silwal said. "They were later released as they agreed not to block the road."

The ruling came after Home Minister Bhim Rawal instructed chiefs of security agencies to work for ending all types of road blockade.

Nepal Police spokesperson Binod Singh said that obstructing roads was always illegal and only that the implementation had been poor.
