SPORTS BRIEFS: Neupane, Dhungana in final

KATHMANDU, May 3: Kushal Neupane of Kirtipur and Shyam Dhungana of Lalitpur on Friday advanced into the men´s singles final of the Valley-wide Sound Table Tennis being held at the Laboratory Higher Secondary School, Kirtipur. In the semifinals, Neupane defeated Krishna Dahal of Lalitpur 12-10, 16-14 and Dhungana beat Yuvaraj Lama of Kathmandu 11-5, 11-6.



In the women´s singles, Devi Paudel beat Sarita Adhikari 11-2, 9-11, 11-9 and Roshani Adhikari edged past Sabitri Paudel 11-8, 12-4, 11-6 to enter the final. Earlier, Nepal Paralympics Committee President Deepak Koirala had inaugurated the event.[break]



Binita, Kajal win golds

KATHMANDU
: Binita Shrestha of Bijeshwari Gyan Mandir Sainik Mahavidyalaya and Kajal Shrestha of the host National Taekwondo Association won gold medals on Friday in the Second NECOS National Chess Tournament under way at the National Sports Council covered hall in Tripureshwar. In the women´s 44 kg final, Binita defeated Sandhya Singh of Udayapur. Samjhana Bhandari of Dhading and Sapana Nepali of Rupandehi finished joint third in the event.



In the women´s 46 kg category, Kajal overcame Anita BC of Rupandehi to take gold while Binita Lama of Dhankuta and Roshani Limbu of Chitwan secured bronze medals. Suja Raut of Udayapur won gold in the 42 kg category and Sushmita Tamang Magar of Chitwan in 49 kg. Amit Shrestha of Kavre clinched gold in the men´s 51 kg category.
