Workers' rally to mark international Workers' Day

KATHMANDU, May 1: The Nepal Trade Union Congress (Independent) marked the 124th International Workers´ Day by organizing a rally here on Wednesday.



The rally started from Bhadrakali Temple converged into a workers´ assembly after reaching at Shantibatika after going through different parts of the city.[break]



Workers´ movement was started in Nepal after the workers movement in 2003 BS under the leadership of the then leader of the Nepali Congress, Girija Prasad Koirala, for the rights of workers at Biratnagar Jute Mills, it is learnt.



Addressing the assembly, Central member of the Nepali Congress, Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, said that the NC for the first time had led the movement for the rights of trade unions and the then NC leader Girija Koirala had led the movement.



Mahat said that coordination between the workers and management would only forward the economic revolution.



On the occasion, Vice-Chairman of the trade union, Ramji Kunwar, expressed the view that minimum rights of workers could not be established even after a long time of the beginning of trade union movement.
