KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Nepali Congress (NC) has expressed serious concern over the efforts made by the government to change the name of BP Botanical Park in Birgunj.

The objection from the main opposition party comes after Province 2 Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut initiated the stalled construction of the park named after NC's founding leader BP Koirala. While doing so on January 30, CM Raut laid a new foundation stone of the park while informing the public about the provincial government had decided to change its name.

The NC said that the then Labor and Transportation Minister Prakash Chandra Lohani had laid the foundation stone of the park back on November 23, 2003. The construction of the park construction was incomplete for years.

The main opposition party also said that the land has already been registered in the name of BP Botanical Park and the land ownership certificate is safe with the party. But CM Raut laid the foundation stone of the park again, sparking fresh controversy. NC leaders have been irked by the recent initiative taken by the provincial government.
