In an operation launched to rescue Shlok Agrawal, who was kidnapped nine days ago from Adarshanager in Birganj, police confronted the kidnappers at Bhediyari village in Parsa, Monday morning. [break]
According to police, they raided the village and two kidnappers, Sanjay Giri, 22, of Bhedihari and Bindeshwar Patel of Harpur Panchrukhi VDC, were seriously injured in an exchange of fire. They later died while undergoing treatment.
Police rescued the kidnapped boy from the house of Ramnath Giri at Bhedihari-9.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Pitamber Adhikari informed that two police personnel-Surya Bahadur Thapa and Bodh Bahadur Tamang- were also injured in the incident. They are undergoing treatment at Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital, Birganj.
Police also detained the boy´s distance uncle Kunal Agrawal, Ramnath Giri´s wife Rambha Devi, 40, her son Ajaya Giri, 19, as well as the boy´s neighbors Pannalal Sahani, 19, Rajanbabu Baniya, 32, and Sikendra Yadav, 18, in connection with the abduction.
Shlok, the son of customs clearing agent Ashok Agrawal, was kidnapped on January 26 at around 5 P.M. from near their house in the Balmandir area at Adarshnagar.
According to SP Adhikari, they had received factual information about the boy´s whereabouts only two days ago although they had started a hunt for the kidnappers from the second day of the abduction.
“After seeing police around the house, the kidnappers opened fire. Two kidnappers and two policemen were injured in the exchange of fire,” said Adhikari. “ Rambha Devi was found sleeping beside the boy in the inner room of the house. After rescuing the boy, we also took her under control,” Adhikari further informed.
Police recovered two homemade pistols and seven rounds of ammunition from the house.
Plan to extort 3 million
The kidnappers were planning to demand Rs 3 million as ransom, it is learnt.
As per information provided by the police, Kunal Agrawal picked up the boy with a motorcyle (Na 23 PA 7033) on the pretext of taking him for a ride around the city .
Police have claimed that deceased Patel was involved in various criminal activities in the past.
Another suspect in the abduction, Mohan Sonar, is on the run.
