BIRATNAGAR, Feb 4: It has been revealed that Biratnagar-based industrialist Ganga Bishan Rathi, who was found dead in India on Saturday, was throttled to death on the same day he was abducted. The kidnappers had demanded ransom after killing Rathi, informed the police. Indian nationals Surendra Kumar Mishra and Abhijeet Basu, who were arrested with Rs 5 million from Bolpur of West Bengal, have confessed to killing Rathi on the day of abduction.

The kidnappers had sacked Rathi near City Center in Siliguri, India after misleading him to Kakarbhitta check post on January 10, 2012.[break]

“After kidnapping Rathi from City Center, we tied his hands and choked him to death the very moment and disposed of his body in Sukna forest near Siliguri,” said the source.

Police were able find the dead bodies of Rathi and Shiv Sena affiliated Chandra Chudal on Saturday after extracting confession from the kidnappers. Both the bodies were recovered from a 150 feet deep gorge in Rangtang near Sukana forest. The families of Rathi, who had flown to Siliguri from Biratnagar, had identified both the dead bodies.

Factories and business houses in Biratnagar had remained closed on Saturday after locals staged demonstrations against Rathi´s abduction and subsequent murder.

Police suspects Indian national Mishra to have masterminded the abduction and murder.

According to the source, Mishra had come to Nepal after abducting both Rathi and Poudel. After demanding the ransom, he again returned to India.
